Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government of Guatemala Informs the International Community

Guatemala, July 2, 2023. The Government of Guatemala respects the independence of powers and the processes carried out by the electoral and judicial entities. Thus: 

● We invoke full respect for the doctrine on international relations that enshrines the principle of non-intervention in internal affairs established in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. 

● For us, the principle of sovereignty is unwavering and, therefore, the respect for legality that lays the foundations of our democratic system and its institutionality. 

● Under the principles that inspire good relations between States of the international community, it is essential to remember that respect for the institutionality of each State is paramount. 

● Confidence in the work of the institutions is necessary to maintain democratic institutionality in the country. The Political Constitution of the Republic and the Electoral and Political Parties Law confer powers and obligations on the Supreme Electoral Tribunal in electoral matters. 

● We issue a call to respect the sovereignty of the States, especially the electoral entity and the justice sector of a country, the latter being the one who must ensure respect for national legislation and fight against impunity.
